Executive Functioning challenges tend to run in families and are common in ADHD, Anxiety Disorder, Depression, Tourette’s Syndrome, Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, as well as certain medical disorders, such as Diabetes and Allergies.
Your executive functioning system is like having a smart engine in your car, telling you when to start and stop, speed up, shift gears, and stop while tracking and coordinating any additional and relevant knowledge necessary to get you to where you want to be.
We all have strengths and weaknesses in our executive functioning. At the same time, when you live with executive functioning deficits there can be significant difficulties in one or more executive functions, which can affect your performance overall and make it tough for your strengths to shine.
